Description

This is the fourth Hurst I've had the fortune to acquire and the third that remains in my possession, but it is arguably the nicest one. Like the sailing illustration, I suspect that it was created for, if not actually published as, the cover of Saturday Home Magazine, a weekend newspaper supplement for which Hurst often supplied the cover art from 1937 through 1950. Unfortunately, its circulation was relatively small, so it's been hard to track down at the library to research. I kind of suspect that it was an alternate version of the February 14, 1948 issue of Saturday Home Magazine that was ultimately rejected. If anyone can identify the usage of this piece, I would love to hear from you!
