I still vividly recall the first time I saw the Falcon, mainstream comics' original African-American superhero, on the cover of Captain America #117. Sure, he was wearing that butt-ugly green outfit and sporting an oversized medallion (sigh...), but it's impossible to overestimate how cool it was to see, at long last, a hero who looked like someone from my own family. I got that same visceral thrill again when Storm appeared, many years later, on the cover of Giant-Size X-Men #1. For all of their faults, Marvel deserves credit for blazing the trail with superheroes that represent a diverse readership.

Way back when, Ron Lim drew one of my earliest two-character commissions. I always relish the opportunity to have him do another one. Ron's classic style just looks the way I expect superhero comics to look. He completed this, his fourth Common Elements entry, at Big Wow 2013. Bob Almond added his customarily deft inking touch (plus some background and a smattering of skillfully placed Zip-A-Tone) in 2019.

Excellent work by the great Ron Lim! And regarding your comments that Marvel deserves credit for trying to bring diversity to the readership, I can only say "Aye, and aye again!"
