DescriptionI had originally talked to Jerry Ordway about doing this commission for me back in 2007. I reminded Jerry about the possibility of drawing this for me, and he replied, "Ray, I'm cool with me 'borrowing the layout and drawing it in my own style.' I kind of prefer the JLA cover..." Jerry went on to tell me he was busy drawing "The Human Bomb" for DC but could get to the commission in February. We talked a bit about what Sekowsky and Anderson did for the original, and Jerry went on to say, "As to Sekowsky, I always found his work appealing, mainly because of his layout sense. I am a huge fan of Dick Giordano's inks on him for Wonder Woman. Those pages brought out something in Dick too. He said he loved inking that stuff, because it was all there in the pencils, with room for him to add his own mark." As Jerry finished up the commission he remarked, "I had never realized before drawing the scene, that the JSA image is coming from the center of the table, yet they were all looking behind Green Lantern:) I also presumed there was a light source from the crystal ball, and that affected how Batman was lit." Jerry was a delight to deal with, and aside from the Silver Age guys is probably my favourite artist for any JSA-related project. In the additional images check out the original art done by Sekowsky & Anderson for the cover of JLA #21. Social/Sharing |

Jerry Ordway is nothing but pure class in my dealings with him. He is also a great artist for just about any genre and not just the golden age JSA stuff. Congratulations on this!
