DescriptionI spent my summers living on an Island in Northern Michigan. No power, no plumbing, and often times not many people. In the in-between times I gravitated to comic books, reading and re-reading whatever i was able to pick up at the grocery store or the used book shop. Once a comic made it to my "reading rack" next to my bed, it stayed there for decades. Being read and re-read countless times a summer. Often times I would sit and draw the figures from the books, those same 100 or so books.Daredevil 249 was probably the most vivid of those books for me to read. I was about 10 years old when I got it off the stands. It was violent, chaotic, and just beautifully drawn. So many pages from it are indelibly etched into my brain. The poor wino having his gin bottle smashed by Bushwacker, the ballerina strung up on a fence in he dying leap. The entire story made an impression on me, one that stays to this day. I was able to pick this cover up, after it being off the market for better part of 2 decades. The work is perfect, Leonardi and Williamson are as perfect together as any two artists could be. Beyond the attachment, I always felt this was one of the most dynamic and beautiful covers of the 80s. I love brown suit wolverine in no small part due to this story. It really was a golden age for Marvel, artistically and creatively in general. The condition is nearly flawless to boot. The logo might need to be re-affixed with cellulose paper binding but that's about it. I dreamed about owning this cover, many of you with pages I've asked about making a buy or trade, but I always backed away. I wanted the cover....I wanted the cover. Then by an incredible stroke of luck, by an off glance one morning as i woke up needing a drink of water...there is was. Now it is here. Social/Sharing |

I can’t put into words how happy I am for you man! You’ve shared with me so many times your love of this DD story and what an impact it had on you. This is one of those acquisitions that goes beyond the obvious ultra coolness of the cover as a collectable. It’s like discovering time travel is real and every time you look at this cover, you can go back to being that same kid who loved reading this story all those years ago. Huge congrats my friend!

Congratulations! It’s a stunning cover of two iconic heroes hashing it out the only way they know how. It always makes me happy to see someone acquire a nostalgic grail.

Amazing cover. Williamson's linework shines in this black/white image, and Leonardi's gift for unique poses and composition are on display here. Congratulations

Holy smokes--I LOVE this two issue storyline. Such a killer cover! Super dynamic composition from Leonardi, superb inks by Williamson. And given when I started reading comics, the brown suit is still Wolvie's "real" costume for me. Congrats--wow!!

Major congratulations on bringing your grail art home!
It's true that every time a comic art collector acquires a long sought grail, you hear a bell, and an angel gets his wings.

I think what gets me, is that there is no black on the piece. No "x" filled areas with just straight black. I dont know if Al was inking in brush or some sort of caligraphy pen, but the only way an area appeared black was just by his layering of straight lines on top of or at angles to each other. Darkness is built up, not plopped down. Im just looking more at it now. I never noticed the effect till holding it my hands. Its like he is inking assuming it will be printed in black and white. I also noticed the only ink that faded on this piece is his 2nd signature in the bottom in on the outer frame border. I wish he was around so i could ask him how he inked this and what type of pens he used. Anyway, rambling.

What I think the other comments meant to say was, 'Holy Wah!' with possibly some, 'Yah, you bet!' mixed in.
