DescriptionThis is the cover rough for Marvel Super-Villain Team Up#15, possibly sketched up at this stage by Dave Cockrum/George Perez (possibly over an initial idea by Johnny Romita) and to be finally pencilled for production by George Perez. I have sought the esteemed input of a number of CAF colleagues including Mike Burkey, Glen David Gold and Dave Karlen to try and ascertain the penciller of this preliminary piece (thank you all gentlemen) and would love to hear from anyone who may be able to shed further light on the artist involved.Social/Sharing |

Gordon I really enjoy quality rough art like this. After all creating cool art to make a comic is a process. You have a piece of artistic history and I thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you Michael for your kind comments. Art is very much a process and after reading and enjoying comics as a boy during the 60's and 70's, a 'light bulb' moment occured to me that these wonderful pages of exciting imagery that took me to other worlds, had to be created at some point, in some form. Access to original American comic art in Australia was almost non existent in the late 70's but I was eventually able to source some early dealers to set me on this path. Though the collection has ebbed, flowed and shrunk over the years, I still enjoy all aspects of the comic book visual process.

It looks like Dave Cockrum to me, but a larger scan would be appreciated. I've got several Cockrum prelims in my gallery and the style looks similar.

Hey Ted, thanks for your sound advice. Looking at your Cover Prelims, this one certainly looks like Dave Cockrum.

Fantastic cover rough! I always enjoy seeing artists' prelims to better understand how they worked out the finished art. Great example by a great artist!
