DescriptionCarl Barks Donald Duck Unpublished Panel Half Page Original Art (1955). Here's a rare treat for any fan of Carl Barks -- a half page that was never published! Notes from Barks' own hand, written in the margin areas of the board (Barks usually drew his pages in two halves, to make them easier to handle and mail) note this to be the third page to a story originally slated for Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #175, April, 1955; it was one of the few Barks stories Western Printing and Publishing rejected outright (the story was eventually published after Barks redrew one and a quarter pages; this is half of the rejected page). The page involves Donald's attempt to regain bags of candy sold by Huey, Dewey, and Louie, as he searches for a missing ring presumed to be within a piece of the candy. Donald is featured in every panel of this fun half page.Extra info : Barks tightened the story by two and half pages - but only a half of them has survived. The rejected pages seem to belong between the published 6`th and 7`th page showing the two episodes in a hospital and in a factory. The two final panels of the planned 6`th page survived. The hospital episode still exists. It was originally the 7`th page. The factory episode ( 8`th page ), as well as two panels from the 6`th page, have vanished. Barks : "My reason for scrapping this sequence of business with the nurses and replacing it with the bear pit in the Zoo was that the nurse business was not funny and it could not be understood by a person who could`t read the dialogue".
