DescriptionJohn Byrne? X-Men? You mean These Classic X-Men? OK, bring it over!...That's just about how it came to be, like all the right ticks in the right boxes... I mean, filling in the blanks between X-Men 66 and Giant Size X-Men 1 was a briliant idea in the first place... When you add, great stories that really read like they fell from Roy Thomas' typewriter, it's absolutely obvious John Byrne took enormous pleasure in crafting this, revisiting some of the best storylines of the late Silver Age (Lorna Dane, Havok, Magneto and the Savage Land,...) and putting some wonderful art on top of it. And, well, adding Tom Palmer's inks to the mix does not only gives full credibility to the project, it just makes the pages shine with that special touch Mr Palmer has... As for this very page... Well, not only we have the never-seen before confrontation of Kraven the Hunter and the X-Men, but my absolute favourite merry mutant, the Beast, gets top exposure in a very gritty action sequence that cleverly paves the way for things to come later in the X-Men saga (Another thing I liked a lot in this series...). Also appearing here are Cyclops (a very Slim Summers), Iceman and Jean Grey/Marvel Girl. Oh, by the way, my only regret here is that she gave up her gorgeous green mini skirt outfit in the first issue. Yes, I know it's historically correct, but it's still a shame, nonetheless! But, in any case, that's the kind of retro-fitting I like! Social/Sharing |

I was so glad Byrne revisited the X-men again with the Hidden Years series. I too was a big fan of the series and the wonderful inks of the talented Mr Palmer. This all out action page between the Beast and Kraven is a great example of the series! Very powerful, CONGRATS!!!!

Actually I think Byrne and Palmer only collaborated just once before this and it was on the Silver Surfer one-shot issue they did with Stan Lee at the begining of the 80's (and of which I also happen to own a page displayed on this very gallery...). So, yes, I knew beforehand how the pair could reach peaks of greatness together! And, despite my knowing this, this page exceeded my expectations if only by the sheer dynamics displayed here!...
