Panel 4 is pure Valiant goodness. So Barry Windsor Esq. This issue messes with us. Last month, Harbinger left us on one hell of a huge cliffhanger. This month, we don't really get answers, just the beginning of answers which seem to basically add up to everything being a lie. It's a great structure and one that will make you question much of what you read before. Where did the events at the end of this issue start? How much of what we read before actually happened? Is Torque dead? He can't be, right? It'd be easy to write off a lot of this as a dream sequence, but it's so much more than that. The answer lies in the ocean, which is cryptic and obtuse, like much of this issue. We may not know exactly what is going on, but we do get some clear character moments and some genuinely funny scenes. The only problem is Joshua Dysart keeps things almost too grounded. This is Torquehalla, it should be ramped up to a thousand. All that aside, this issue, like the one before it, will hook you hardcore. I can't wait to see where this is going. Barry Kitson is still on art for this issue, but he's joined by Mark Pennington and Brian Level this time around. After the harrowing ordeals of the past several weeks, the Renegades found themselves enjoying a perfect beachside day and a much-deserved rest. Then it all went horribly wrong. Kris Hathaway, seemingly experiencing a psychotic break and claiming to be following instructions from troubling voices inside the ocean itself, managed to violently attack Torque, bludgeoning him beyond recognition. Has a member of the Renegades murdered one of their own? And if so…why? It turns out that nightmares are just dreams too. Heading west, the Renegades have found themselves at the end of Route 66 in a little town called Los Angeles, California. But the war they left behind is still waging, somehow, unseen just below the surface of the sun and surf. What if it will never end? What if there is no escape? What if wherever they go, they carry the war inside them? It has long been said that the City of Angels is a place where anything can happen… where reality is pliable and dreams are made real in the blink of an eye. Now, like the decades of wannabe starlets and rockers before them, the Renegades are about to find out that having your dreams come true is severely overrated. Social/Sharing |
