What a beauty. Every Franklin Booth piece is like a gem, but what I love about this art is that it has all of the classic Booth elements in one piece (see detailed photos). Classic Booth clouds and skyline, classic Booth trees, classic Booth grass and foliage, classic Booth signature. Ahhh, joy.

This piece is titled in Booth's hand under the mat, "The Shepherd of King Admetus." Published in 1904, in Scribner’s, for the poem by James Russell Lowe, entitled “The Shepherd of King Admetus.” This is one of Booth’s earliest celebrated works, and depicts Apollo (disguised as a shepherd) playing a lyre while King Admetus looks on. Nice size for a Booth -- 14" x 11". Thanks, again, go to the Mechem brothers, for giving this one up.

YOu have been busy lately picking up pen and ink masterpieces. This is certainly a fine addition. Love the trees, sky and clouds on this one in particular.

Exquisite! Just the patterning in the grass is mesmerizing and, as you say, unmistakably by Booth. The figures, clouds and trees are just fantastic.
