Description

Little Nemo Sunday from 1/20/07, just 15 months after the strip began, when McCay was still drawing large "landscape" panels. This is the first strip of the "ice palace" story arc, and has been re-printed many times. A Little Nemo strip is, without a doubt, my holy grail, and one I never thought I would own. This piece was separated into two pieces (between the second and third panels) at some point long ago, probably by Winsor McCay's son, who often separated his father's art and gave it away. I purchased the upper two panels within an hour of the time they appeared on the market (through a prominent dealer), after my friend, Michael Finn, called me from London to tell me it was for sell (thanks, Michael!). An hour after I bought these panels, the owner of the bottom panel (Darren Shan, a well-known children's horror book author who lives in Ireland) called the dealer and begged to buy it but, alas, it was too late. Eventually, Darren and I were able to negotiate a deal that allowed me to purchase the bottom panel and complete the art. Darren is a great guy, and I am grateful that he allowed me to buy his piece! After 100 years, this piece is once again whole, after its pieces were seperated and carried thousands of miles apart. Only in an electronic age could such a thing happen. I am unbelievably proud to be the caretaker of this little piece of history, and it will always sit on my wall where I can see it every day . . .

Somehow I missed the fact of this piece for the last 7 years. It's magnificent and your stamina in getting the pieces united awards you the Nemo-verse's equivalent of a No Prize.

The art is a treasure for the ages, and the fact that you were able to reunite it after nearly a century staggers the imagination. What a testament to the discipline (and goodwill) of devoted collectors like yourself and Darren Shan!

Little Nemo has been a favorite of mine for decades.  Seeing this Sunday is a true treat.  McCay was a genius in all aspects of creating these Sunday pages.  The heavy inked lines held the colors so well for the printed versions.  Incredible to look at.  What a joy it must be to see this art whenever you would like.  The story that goes with this ART is incredible as well.  Congratulations.
