DescriptionI have wanted one of Brittney Lee's dimensional paper sculpture illustrations ever since I first saw her work. The details that she puts into them is simply mind boggling. The opportunity to acquire one arose back in October 2013 when the Lovely: Girls of Animation kickstarter was launched. When I saw the tier that included a dimensional paper sculpture by Brittney I couldn't pledge fast enough. In September 2014 Brittney contacted me asking if I had any requests for the piece. I was hoping that she would, so of course I had to request a Kimono Girl.She had the piece completed by mid October and posted it on her instagram so I figured I would be receiving it shortly after. Well the piece didn't arrive so I contacted the kickstarter in January 2015 and they said that she was getting ready to ship them. I contacted the kickstarter again in April when it still hadn't arrived. This time I didn't get any response from them so decided to check in with Brittney. The email was buried while she was getting ready for a convention in Seattle but she responded in April. She said she still had the piece in her possession. I was relieved to hear it wasn't lost in the mail. Well the wait began again. This time I sent an email to Brittney in July and it must have gotten lost again because I never heard back. After waiting a couple more months I sent another near the end of September. This time she replied back and asked for my address again so she could get it shipped the upcoming week. Well the piece finally arrived today. It was definitely worth the wait but I was worried sick the whole time that something might have happened to it. What a relief that this beauty is finally home and hanging safely on the wall. The depth she puts into creating the pieces is simply astounding. You really have to see the piece in hand to really appreciate how much thought she puts into each piece. There are so many intricately cut details in the piece especially on the kimono. I am thrilled to finally have a dimensional paper sculpture by Brittney. There are a lot of imitators out there that make paper cut pieces but no one comes close to what Brittney can do. Brittney is a visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios. She has worked on the films Paperman, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen as well as illustrated numerous Disney books. This theme seems to have brought out the best in so many artists. Quite a horror story that you had to be put through the wringer like this, and experience so much worry about it. Glad you had a happy ending, though! A very appealing and clever illustration here!
