DescriptionBack in mid April I contacted Chrissie about commissioning a Kimono Girl piece after seeing she was dabbling in oil paints. She was very interested in doing one but said her schedule was pretty full up until SDCC so she wouldn't be able to get to it until later in the year. That was fine with me so I waited until the very end of June to email her again. She said still wanted to do the piece but her schedule was still full and that she would email me at the end of the month. She must have forgotten because I had to email her again in late August. Once again her schedule was still full so the back and forth continued. Finally near the end of November she said she could take on the commission. We decided to go with a large watercolor piece. As always I let her decide what she wanted to do for the piece but I did mention that I prefer the Kimono Girls not be geisha. Not that there is anything wrong with a geisha but I just prefer them to be natural women without all of the makeup. Chrissie agreed and made the decision to go with purple skin tones since she said she was trying to stick to a limited palette. It took a while for Chrissie to finally take the commission but I knew she was going to come up with a stunning piece so it was worth waiting for. The piece is breathtaking. I love the art nouveau aesthetic. The kimono girl is absolutely adorable and the color palette she chose really draws your eye. I like that the main focus is be blue of kimono which has a fantastic pattern. It is simple but a very elegant design. The cherry blossoms at the bottom are just so beautiful. I'm really happy she included them in the piece. Everything about the is just perfect. I couldn't ask for a better piece. The linework was published on page 12 of Chrissie's 2017 sketchbook.
