DescriptionMy "Significant Spidey" Week continues with the very moment when Peter Parker finally encounters the clone he thought had perished way back in Amazing Spider-Man #149.The clone, who now goes by Ben Reilly, first appears as a "mysterious figure" who has returned to the city due to his concern about Aunt May, who has fallen il.. We get glimpses of this mysterious character throughout the various Spidey titles as he hones in on Aunt May, and by this issue (SpectSM 216), we're ready for some answers. And we get at least one. Because, as this two-page sequence begins, a man looking like Peter Parker has been sitting in the hospital room where poor Aunt May lies in a comatose state. He is horrified when Spider-Man swings by the window. He panics, and tries to think of a place to hide. Standing on the hospital roof, Spider-Man hears someone coming, and when he turns to look and see who it is, he is shocked to see himself looking at Peter Parker !! Just loved this moment when I first read the issue, and I am thrilled to own both pages. Though it involved two different Peters, it was a one-of-a-kind event that was beautifully drawn by Sal Buscema. And it was only the beginning of a very turbulent relationship & series of adventures involving Peter Parker and his clone Ben Reilly. Social/Sharing |

I LOVE how the classic 6 panel grid penultimate page segues into that splash, with gorgeous art by Sal Buscema, at the peak of his career. Great stuff, amd thanks for posting them together like this, as the storytelling impact is HUGE!

Spidey in the splash is quintessential Sal Buscema. Such a great artist, this period of PPSSM has to be one of the best in his career

Yeah, crazy moment, man - remember it distinctly! Love that you have and posted both pages together. You got the storytelling tension and leadup, then the reveal! Two Petes?! Two Spideys?! Worthy addition to the week, Paul!
