DescriptionCan't do a title splash week without a Spider-Man piece! And I really love this one. It's a nice big image of Spidey experiencing a rare moment of (vigilant) tranquility in the beautiful New Mexico desert right before Puma strikes from out of nowhere on the very next page. I attached an image of that next page for fun. Thanks for looking! One last title splash to come tomorrow night. Social/Sharing |

I know it says New Mexico, but I love how Sal used a shot of the West Mitten Butte of Monument Valley. It's an iconic geographical site, regardless of what you call it. Oh, and thats a great Spidey shot with pencils and inks by Sal, no less.

Spider-Man outside of his hood. How is going to swing? I think he will manage somehow. Congrats.

Oh, I wouldn't exactly describe this as a moment of tranquility. Like a spider waiting for the fly, he's been crouching there for two hours waiting for Puma to arrive, but always vigilant and at attention, knowing how fast the Puma can strike! Sweet piece from a really fun period in the title's history!

Yeah, you are exactly right. It's more the "calm before the storm," with Spidey on high alert. I guess I should call it 'a rare moment of inaction' for the Webhead.

The heat, the arid humidity, and the pulsing waves beat down upon Spidey even while just holding this crouch trying to stay a cold blooded stalker perched upon his perch like Wyle E. Coyote. Sal plays this up as Spidey is ripe for Puma to surprise him.

Great Splash! Love it visually, but it also show Sal's greatness as storyteller. You really feel in the middle of desert heat!

I hope Peter uses cotton. More breathable. That's a beauty for Title Splash Week. Right in the sweet spot for Sal's work from this run, imo. I really like how he kept the shadows lighter, as if you couldn't quite block the sun there. It really adds to the sun baked nature of the page. Great score. Congrats!

Oh, you know I love this one. Spec Spi 171/172 are 2 of my favorite comics, and 172 particularly has so many great images, this being one! Spidey baking in the sun, getting ready for a throwdown with my man, Puma. Spidey's my man, too, though. Ooh, this one's a toughie :) Great set up title splash, and that next page...I'd love to own that one myself one day :) We shall see! Congrats, man!
