DescriptionIt's Monday, so here's another Significant Spidey Event! With a line that harkens ALL the way back to Amazing Spider-Man vol 1 #42 (1966), Mary Jane announces to Peter that he is about to become a father! Last week when I posted the page where Peter is devastated in finding out his parents are artificial constructs created by the Chameleon, I promised something more joyful this week. And yes, even though the whole Peter & MJ baby saga ended in heartache and tragedy (as well as quite a bit of mystery) for the poor couple, at least THIS particular moment is a happy one for our web-spinning friend and the love of his life. Plus you get Bill Sienkiewicz inks, which is very cool. Social/Sharing |

Sorry, what did you say in your description? I was busy ogling a Bill hottie. Note I said Bill, not Sal and Bill. Hes like Wally Wood or Bob McLeod in that his inks overwhelm anyone hes inking. Sals pencils disappear but in a good way.

I believe you may be confusing web fluid and webbing...Unless, he was using webbing to hold her. He is fond of slinging it around. Puts his 'web shooter' which is full of 'web fluid' into perspective, doesn't it? Whatever happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom...MJ says hes a bit of a tiger... I always thought he was a spider.... The previous sentences are proof that comics can harm young minds. I have never grown up....You're still reading comics too?? How old are you?

A superb scene, scintillatingly scribbled by Sal and Sienkiewicz! Such a memorable moment in the life of everyone's favourite super couple and I have to say that this part of the run by Sal was my favourite due to Sienkiewicz becoming the regular inker for a while!

Such a whirlwind of thoughts about that era of the Spider-books and how they dealt with Peter and MJ's baby, but I'll keep it simple by saying this page is an absolute gem.

While their styles may not have meshed to look like the slick work of their contemporaries, this duo created a look that was decidedly different. It may not have always worked on every page, but when they were on like this splash the result was the most electric of the era.

Yes, BIG moment in the history of these 2! MJ with the line, and Pete again with the dumbfounded look :) And yes, definitely interesting with the Sin-kev-itch inks. Not sure I liked it as much then but I definitely appreciate it more now, especially when looking at the OA! Congrats!

Oh yeah, this is all about the Sienkiewicz inks. Just like Nowlan, Bill's inks are very overpowering. While I would never go so far as to say that the penciller doesn't matter, with these guys, it's sometimes almost impossible to establish the penciller's artistic or stylistic identity. In other words, sometimes all you see is Nowlan or Sienkiewicz. Of course it always helps when you have a penciller who knows what the hell he's doing. And few have been doing it better for the past six decades than Sal Buscema. Anyway, like the lady said, you just hit another jackpot buddy! Awesome splash!
