Conny's quote: It is days like today that I am thankful to be an artist. Everything just came together as I had hoped.When Brian was here, he showed me a fascinating technique using base pencil shading, then lots of fixative followed by gauche, rubbing out gauche and layers with watercolours. While I know it works really well for him, I found that there were just too many stages for my own liking, and it would end up frustrating me. But I loved the finish so I decided to see if I could do the same with just watercolours.
Turns out I can, and this is the result. Laying down thick layers of watercolours, waiting for them to dry and then wetting my brush and rubbing out the areas I wish to highlight with other colours or just leave it as is. Then adding other darker colours where I want subtle changes in shadows.
I hope you like the affect as much as I do!

I would say it worked really well! Great piece. I really like the glow in her eyes.
