Description

Bernie didn't remember doing this when I showed it to him, but he said it was unquestionably his work. It's not the kind of formal prelim on vellum he used for light boxing his Swamp Thing pages (in fact it's a more finished drawing than those) but seems to be a working out of his idea for the splash --see additional image for the print version. It's not on bristol, (therefore not a discarded first attempt) but on something like a magazine backer board. The Skull of Silence is the first Kull story published by Marvel, six months after Conan 1, and was a childhood favorite of mine. I still think it's a close-to-perfect REH adaptation. I've never seen an original page from the story, so I am pretty happy about this.
