Description

Well I certainly love the Fiumara Bros don't I? Aquaman is one of my favorite characters- but I don't like anything they've done with him since about 1967. I don't like the bearded Aquaman, I've never seen the movies (I don't see any modern superhero movies) but my affection for the character goes back to Ramona Fradon's work on the character which I first discovered in the DC Archives series which struck a cord similar to those great Filmation AQUAMAN Cartoons from the 60s that I used to watch after school.

Growing up I was a blonde kid and I liked that Aquaman had blonde hair AND he existed underwater and my last name was FISH-- how could I not see a connection? Aquaman to me works best as a Flash Gordon type character existing under the water- and this annual captures that feeling for me. Max's delicate line and majestic styling is a perfect combo for a character who someday will get the proper respect!

The Fiumara's are pretty amazing artists. Great balance to the page with an interesting layout!

The underwater seascapes are so interesting to explore along with Aquaman and Mera. Fiumara makes the page look like a travelogue as the scenes smoothly flow from one beautiful shot to another and we get a close up at the end to make it more relatable and connect to Mera's own feelings.
