DescriptionI don't like to sound older than I am, but this story was done during a period I really loved: when comicbooks were written first, and pencilled then. This story was written by Ann Nocenti, and I remeber it to be very funny and very deep at the same time (they were talking about experiments on live animals - but the activistes were not portrayed as starightforward "good" guys: the story raised questions, and doubts, and eventually forced you to produce some personal thinking - no way you could just watch the drawings!). Arthur Adams was during these years in what I consider his prime, and the artwork is, and this opinion is widely shared, impressive. I personally believe that this SpiderMan was one of the main sources of inspiration for the defining Todd McFarlane interpretation of the early nineties. I mean, look at that web... The black costume was perfectly portrayed here: a spot of black ink running across the page, definetely alien: some kind of very early and very good natured Venom. And the 3D effect in the third panel, it's just great. Social/Sharing |

I loved this book! As you said, lots of fun in both story and art. Really enjoyed Arthur's rendition of Spidey in black costume. Surprisingly, you don't see a lot of pages from this annual sized book floating around. Congrats on snagging a great one!

Wow, Art Adams doing Spidey (in the black suit!) and Godzilla on the same page! Very cool! This is probably my favorite era for Adams' work as well. And in the credit department, Arthur would be the first person to tell you that he got those webs from Michael Golden! Fantastic page, congrats!

Great page! You know, looking at this makes me want to dig out my copy of the issue and re-read it. Thanks for reminding me about a great comic!

I come back every so often and look at this page. It has everything I love about comics... a hero, a monster, great dialogue (and actual word balloons), and terrific artwork. This is what it's all about.

I guess Art's and Todd's Spideys are someway similar because they both have Michael Golden as (huge) influence... anyway, fantastic Adams' page, a real gem!
