DescriptionI wasn't born when "Twinkle Twinkle Daisy Starr" was published in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Princess Tina.I've not read the comic that they were from and I am only familiar with the story from the original pages by Mr. Redondo that I've been able to buy. I've no idea how the story started, or how it ended, but the art is some of Mr. Redondo's best work in UK comics. There's so much going on in each page that a single page pretty much tells a stand-alone story. The gist of the story, as far as I’ve been able to make out, is that our plucky heroine, Daisy Starr, runs away from an orphanage to join a theatre group. The stakes in the story are generally low—Daisy is auditioning for a part in a “seaside theatre production” rather a film or TV role. Daisy falls in love with the producer, the dark, dashing, brooding and intense Steve Diamond. That love is, naturally, unrequited. Besides, Steve has a glamorous actress girlfriend who competes for roles with Daisy. Meanwhile, the matron from the orphanage dies but Daisy doesn’t know and misses the funeral, which upsets the other orphans, who now think that Daisy is a heartless cow despite her helping to care for them while she was at the orphanage – “Most of my life was spent looking after thirty odd kids—bathing ‘em, feeding ‘em.” The whole thing is a rollercoaster of disaster and opportunity, with squabbling and low-key triumphs peppering the story as it hurtles onwards. The writing is all about E for Entertainment rather than L for Literature and it’s good-natured and free from cynicism and never flirts with being overwrought. I have no idea who wrote it but, gosh, he or she gives that impression that they enjoyed writing it. And what can you say about Mr. Redondo’s art – clean, precise inking; top-notch draftsmanship; storytelling that leads a reader effortlessly across the page. Crafted soap opera, ladies and gentlemen; that's what this is. This story needs to be reprinted. I will write to my MP. He’s bound to help with that. Mr. Redondo has done, as expected, a cracking job on this commission. Social/Sharing |

I was lucky enough to disover IPC's artwork- and was involved in a small way in it being sold- so I'm really thrilled to see that you enjoyed the pages the bought and that they inspired this wonderful commission! Jesus is still a terrific artist!
