Description"For in the Market-place, one Dusk of Day, I watch'd the Potter thumping his wet clay: and with its obliterated Tongue It murmur'd- Gently, Brother, gently, pray!" A beautiful piece by Rene Bull from the 1913 Hodder & Stoughton volume, Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. I've always enjoyed Orientalist Art, and the work of Rene Bull. Thrilled to add this wonderful representation of both.Social/Sharing |

Stunning spot illustration. Beautiful technique and detail. Book Illustrations from this era are one of my favorites.

Nice exotic lands illustrated to show the rest of the world. Only few could afford to see this kind of setting in person, so it was important to give people a lasting impression of somewhere half the world away.

Marcus,
Books certainly provided grand tours for many an armchair adventurer. That would include me also!

Bull is a pretty underrated ink-slinger and this is a wonderful example of his ink work. Big congrats to you, Jim. Any chance of adding a close-up detail shot?

Rob,
Glad you enjoyed it. I was thrilled to add it to my small collection. Greatly enjoyed the Bull pieces from your collection. I have added a higher resolution scan as an attachment. Hope you enjoy.
