Description

Before I started collecting original art, I never understood the fascination with rough preliminary sketches and couldn't figure out why collectors paid good money for little sketches by Frazetta, Krenkel, Jones, and others. What's to love about a few squiggly lines? However, after years of collecting and studying illustration art, now I get it. It is not just squiggly lines -- it is the movement that great artists develop in a few quick strokes of a pen, it is the capturing of the essence of an object in a moment, it is seeing how an artist formulates ideas and sees the world. This set of sketches from Jeff Jones is a case in point. To me, it is easy to get absorbed in these little sketches, and they confirm what I have always known -- that Jones was a genius with a pen.
