DescriptionI'm pleased to add a very sweet ink drawing by Johnny Gruelle to the collection. Done in the same format as drawings from the Francis Greeley Collection, this piece came out of the Louis Staub Collection. Staub was a printer in New York City who mailed these bordered pieces of paper to artists, many of whom responded with sketches. This drawing features Raggedy Ann and Andy sitting on the wall, with their dog Fido between them. The small character with the cigar is Brutus, from a Sunday page-only feature that Gruelle drew for the New York Herald-Tribune from 1929 to 1938, the year he passed away. September 9, 1932.Social/Sharing |

A nice classic as Raggedy Ann and Andy was still very popular right up to the early 80's delighting generations.
