DescriptionThe "Piano Man" album was released on November 3, 1973. I always assumed that the front and back covers were manipulated photographic images. Turns out they are acrylic paintings done by one of Columbia Record's go-to guys for album art, Bill Imhoff. This pair of paintings was gifted to one of Billy Joel's managers, and a few years ago he sold them. They landed here and there, and through great fortune, a bit of luck, and quite a coincidence, they ended up in my hands in 2012. These are pure, solid gold grail for me.Social/Sharing |

I'm kinda speechless… after all these years who would have thought that the art was still even "around"? GREAT… no, AMAZING score! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the enthusiasm on these. I just shake my head at actually having them… it seems a bit unreal.

Thanks for the note.
I think you need to be of a certain age to appreciate this one :)
I happen to think it is a gold-plated treasure.

What a find. I got to see Billy on the first tour at Liberty Hall in Houston. Liberty Hall was a two story house where the first floor was converted into a performance area, back room, and kitchen. Neat venue; really fun show. He came back the next year and played there, too. After that, it was larger venues.

Hi. Thanks. It was nothing but a fluke upon a fluke that I ended up with these, and I am also SUCH a fan that I still geek out when I see them hanging on the wall. I first saw him, too, in a small venue in Madison WI just as he was taking off. I've been to a couple of the Madison Square Garden shows he does. Still a thrill.
