DescriptionThis is one of my favorite pieces, if not my very favorite. It represents the culmination of the historical '90's storyline of Superman's Death, Funeral and Rebirth, and is probably the biggest and boldest image of Superman in the history of the character. Superman is seen here in his red and blue costume for the first time since his "death," with a grim, "take no prisoners" look on his face and Superboy announcing to the world that the one and only Man of Steel is back for good. And dig the long hair! When the "Death" storyline came out, I was traveling for work, so hunting down each issue was a challenge. When issue 82 came out, I remember running all over a city, I think it was Newport, RI, trying to find a place that sold comic books. I was unfamiliar with the city, and had limited time there, but I finally found the comic in an old spinner rack at a gas station. Luckily the book was in pristine condition (spinner racks are generally not kind to comics). I devoured the issue, and that huge image of Superman took my breath away. One of the best memories in my comic reading history. I personally like this powerful double page splash more than any of the covers that were featured during the run of the story. Dan Jurgens & Brett Breeding certainly did the character proud with this incredible piece of art. Social/Sharing |

I completely agree. This was the storyline that captured my attention as a child and hooked me on comic books. This double page splash may have the biggest image of Superman I have seen in comics. He's back in his iconic costume flying right off the pages. A grail piece for sure. Congrats on a beautiful piece of history!

1st appearance of Earth-Mullet Superman. At least his costume is 100% correct.

I'll still take Jurgens over the vast majority of new artists working today! This is most impressive, congratulations on acquiring it. :)

I'm a diehard Marvel guy, but I'll be darned if this isn't one of the most iconic shots of Supes I've ever seen. Just a glorious DPS. And those inks by Brett really put this piece over the top.
