DescriptionThis killer Scott Mcdaniel splash features an enormous full figure costume image of Daredevil soaring above an exploding Staten Island ferry. McDaniel is probably best known for his work on the Daredevil story arc, "Fall From Grace", which finished 2 issues earlier in #325. This splash comes from the following story, "Tree of Knowledge", and is a top-tier piece by the artist. This art has an image area of approximately 10" x 15". It is signed by McDaniel in the lower margin.More info about McDaniel here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_McDaniel Sadly Hector Collazo died due to heart failure in 2012, more info here: https://ceruleanblueskies.wordpress.com/2013/04/13/why-planning-for-your-digital-afterlife-is-important/ I greatly appreciate the dark and sinister atmosphere in this piece, it reminds me of Frank Miller's art style, although McDaniel stands tall on his own. This piece really shows Daredevil when he's best - and just like I want to remember him! Also note how the text written by Daniel G. Chichester starts with a central focus (the 33 dead) and then expands to include secondary (17 dying in water) and even tertiary perspectives (long-term rehabilitation) of the victims. Thus should anyone think that comic book readers are narrow-minded and fixate only on central issues of a problem think again! ;-) And I really love the old narrative text as shown on this page. Nowadays you can flip through a comic book in minutes, in the good old days you actually had to read, which in my opinion greatly increased the quality of the story, immersion and engagement. In our time, where attacks by terrorists are not uncommon, this piece seems to illustrate the essence of (super-)heroes, namely to stand up for core human values and justice. In its essence this piece simply nails what (super-)heroes are all about. Social/Sharing |

I thought McDaniel's take on DD was pretty interesting - simple, clean lines. Great pick up!
