Description

These days it's so difficult to find Fantastic Four covers from the original volume 1, before all the re-numberings, constant volume changes and slew of variant covers began (though I do like variant covers, don't get me wrong).

And what a cover, featuring the stunning pencils of Jim Cheung and the beautiful, meticulous inking of John Dell.

And I just love the heroic look of the team on this cover image. Appropriately, the backdrop features a combination of a dark & starry night representing the boundless expanse of space (added digitally to the finished cover) and a bunch of machinery and scientific doohickies that Reed no doubt is eager to get back to fiddling with before the team is off on their next adventure — perhaps one involving traveling to the heavens above them.

With this intrepid team, the sky’s definitely not the limit.

And bonus! I got the cover from John Dell himself!

I had a title overlay created for the cover. I included an additional pic of the cover without that overlay.

Thanks for looking!

Great timely post to coincide with the release of the new film (god I hope it's good).  I think the challenge with any FF team shot is getting The Thing right.  That's usually a good barometer for me.  This is a great three-quarters shot featuring Marvel's First Family.  Congrats!

I thought Sue was the leader now. Lol. Why is Reed in the leader position?

Regarding, "These days it's so difficult to find Fantastic Four covers from the original volume 1" Just keep on breathing long enough and when the guys who currently own them die (or have to sell them to fund medical expenses) you will get a chance!! Hurrah for mortality.

This is a fabulous cover. I do hold out no hope for the FF film. Bad casting.

Cheung covers are great!  They have his signature quality always and they are done in a way so the book feels like a big event!

A great looking piece! This cover really captures the spirit of the Fantastic Four and who they are at their core: Heroic, adventurous, and deeply tied to science and exploration. Cheung’s pencils are always really good, and here they bring a real sense of power and presence to the team. The contrast of the tech filled background with the cosmic setting adds a perfect layer of context, grounding them in both the scientific and the cosmic realms they've straddled for so long. Kudos, Pauly!

Great FF cover! Hard to believe we're so close to the FF movie coming out already. Love John Dell's inking over Cheung and it's cool you got it directly from him! congrats Paul

Technically, you still don't have a volume 1 FF cover- this was from volume 3 (they reverted to the original numbering again for issue 500 during volume 3, but the Heroes Reborn volume 2 stuff still counts).  But that doesn't change the fact it's a great Cheung FF cover, so congrats!

I see your point.  I realized I was somewhat fudging the definition of a 'volume 1" comic.  What I should have said that it's nice to not have to put down a volume number + issue number + legacy number in parenthesis. It's so cumbersome.  So much nicer to just put down 'Fantastic Four #525' and be done with it.  And I guess in my mind, when a title reverts to the legacy numbering for any period of time, it has reverted back to volume 1.  But that's  just me 😊. Thank you for the congrats!

The gang's all here, no nonsense mugs!  Cheung's just a great artist, and Dell inks accentuate.  Whoever's on the other side of those looks...best back up!  Congrats!
