DescriptionFor my last "Significant Spidey" Monday post (for the time being), I'm choosing a page from the famous/infamous Clone Saga! This issue follows the cliffhanger splash from Spectacular Spider-Man #216, which features the famous 1st meet between Peter/Spidey and his clone (Ben Reilly) on the rooftop of the hospital where Aunt May lies in a coma. I posted that splash (along with the previous page) in December of 2020 (see add'l pic). Once the initial shock wears off, it doesn't take but a few seconds before a very angry Spidey throws a punch at Ben, causing Ben to leap across to the next rooftop and miss (hey, he's rusty). And the battle is on! I love this page because it starts with Ben dangling precariously from a rooftop, and then BOOM, that great panel of Spidey leaping. You get some nice acrobatics from Ben, leading to BOOM, a great close-up of Spidey pouncing right off the page at you (well, at Ben). Anyway, thanks to everyone who shared my "Significant Spidey" posts with me. Hope you enjoyed them! Social/Sharing |

Each panel feels like it pops out, but that top right panel is a wowie!

Jeez Louise, talk about a money shot! The last panel is great as well. You gotta give credit where it's due, Butler did a phenomenal job of channeling Bagley here. So in this case, the Butler really DID do it!

The storyline that brought me back to the Spider-Man books. This page is so freakin' good. Brings me right back to the mid-1990s.

Steven Butler and Randy Emberlin did the best they could when the clone saga had big hero moments like this! It leaps off the page as there is no panel border. Other times it was just a lot of moping around feeling sad for his situation and fighting off some villains every month so he could be sad again about being a clone and sell some chome cardstock cover comics.

Oh the clone saga, while the story still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the art is amazing and this page is a banger! Awesome page Paul!

I don't think Steve Butler gets enough credit for his art. Look at this page, packed full of action. Great inking also. Fantastic page from a great storyline

You can see that strong Bagley influence - not a bad thing :) Great fast paced storytelling, and though that's a killer full figure splashy shot up top, I think my favorite panel's the last. Love the "I've gotcha" vibe, with the partly shadowed face and hands coming right at Ben. Overall this is a page that's definitely got it all. Congrats, man!
