DescriptionCaptain America: Brave New World is in the theaters! It only took 17 years to get the Red Hulk on the silver screen. I haven't seen it yet, but I thought it was a great time to post this cover that I recently purchased from a good friend (Thanks, PA!) This cover began as a double page splash within the issue where Doc Samson is recreating an encounter between the Hulk and the Abomination, who is lying dead on the ground. In attendance are She-Hulk, Iron Man, Maria Hill and (dn dn dnnnn) Thunderbolt Ross, who (though we didn't know it at the time) was playing dumb. He famously asks: "Since when does the Hulk use a gun?" Um ... well ... he does when the Hulk is YOU !!!! To add to the mystery, in the flashback scenes, everything is shown with a green filter ... so at this point we don't know that we're dealing with a Red Hulk. That would be revealed in issue 2. For the cover, the image of the DPS was reversed so that the Hulk side would be on the front cover. Makes sense ... I mean, it is his book. It's not "Abomination #1." And wow that would totally suck for the guy if he got offed in his first issue. Anyway ... Very excited to add this one to my collection. Especially since it makes a really nice companion piece to my wraparound cover to Hulk #2. Here's a link to that one: Hulk #2 wraparound cover Social/Sharing |

Only the flex on this Hulk's arm while he shoots that gun goes harder than owning this cover itself! ;-p
Awesome McGuiness piece and from Red Hulk's early issue introductions to the world! great combo and perfect pair with your other cover. congrats Paul!

I've always said the exact same thing...(I even recently said it directly to him!) … Ed is the King of the DPS!

I couldn't give a rat's behind about 1st appearances or birth pages. But as far as McGuinness Hulk pieces go, WOW!

It's SO bizarre seeing the Hulk needing to use a gun, or ANY weapon at all for that matter, to defeat Abomination. After all, you'd think that being "The strongest one there is!" would negate the necessity for that. But regardless, I love the lighting technique here and the rendering techniques are really superb.

It was incredibly bizarre. And a HUGE clue that this was not "our" Hulk...though in the next issue that became extremely obvious, what with him being, well ... "Roses are red, so is the Hulk, come buy our book, we've printed in bulk!"

They had to custom make a gun that a Hulk could handle with those giant fingers! Banner's pants growing to hulk size and then back could possibly be explained away, but getting a gun to expland to fit those fingers is more than a stretch!

The unsung hero, Dexter's insane feathering technique on the hulk is what has me captivated. Look at those lines!

"The Hulk with the Golden Gun" :)
This issue definitely had me hooked to learn and see (McG art!) more of this new Hulk and this scene was part of that. Love the lighting effect. Great looking piece, and important, too. Congrats!
