DescriptionBack in 2010, I commissioned one sketch at NYCC. I did not commission a sketch from a comic book artist. I commissioned a sketch from Carroll Spinney. Who? Caroll Spinney, the longtime performer of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, and a talented artist within his own right was in attendance. Caroll Spinney has drawn his characters for various projects over the year and he was meeting with people and accepting commsions at New York Comic Con! You have to understand. The Muppets and Sesame Street were the most amazing things when you were three years old growing up in the late 70's and early 80's. Sesame Street defined the childhood for many and I would not pass up this opportunity. He spoke with every person to determine what he wanted to draw and color in order for it to mean something to the person commissioning the art. I explained to him how much the work that he and his peers meant to me as a child and how I honestly believe that he was perhaps one of the most important people at Comic Con. I meant that and still believe it.Here is what he created for me. Social/Sharing |

It must have been cool to meet Caroll Spinney. He had a big impact on many of us growing up on Sesame Street.

His wife and he were genuinely nice and gracious people. I think they were taken aback by how many people were lined up to get sketches and meet him at a comic book convention. Anyone who left that table walked away with a smile. You are right, the impact that these guys had on our childhood and overall education is immeasurable.
