Description

These are the pencils for Disney's, The Jungle Book (1967) and this image features King Louie. I thought about picking up a cel but this was too hard to resist in obtaining a set of production drawings of the principal cast of characters... I picked up this lot through the last Heritage Animation Art Auction. I've wanted some original art from the Jungle Book for many years and thanks to the last Heritage auction I can knock that collecting goal off my bucket list.

Unlike many of the prior Disney animated features, The Jungle Book did not have a singular animator or animation team working on a character. Animation teams were organized to work on separate sequences throughout the movie. This meant that the animation team responsible for drawing Baloo the Bear in the "Wanna Be Like You" musical sequence would be different from the team working on Baloo the Bear in the "Bare Necessities" sequence. For sake of organization in my gallery, I am labeling the creative artist as Walt Disney and Ken Anderson as this was the last film that Walt had been involved with the production before he passed away. Ken Anderson was in charge of the character design of all the main players in the movie. As both creators would have had a hand in the production of these pieces, I have labeled both Walt and Ken as 'assistants'.

Nice catch with this group- Jungle Book drawings are SO hard to find. I've only had a handful in 30 years!
