Description

DC Super-Stars was a line that ran from 1973 until 1977. At first, it was used to reprint Silver-Age stories but then with issue 12, they began running new original stories. Issue 15 featured Sgt. Rock and the Unknown Soldier in a 30-page story titled, "Heap the Corpses High".

For those unfamiliar with the Unknown Soldier, he is a World War II agent for the US whose face was disfigured so often wore heavy bandages. But he is a master of disguise who can infiltrate the enemy by taking on the appearance of someone else.

So this particular story partners him with Sgt. Rock and the hook of the story is that one of the two wants to kill Mademoiselle Marie and the other wants to save her. I haven't read the story but Mlle. Marie was a love interest of Sgt. Rock so I'm gonna assume he wants to save her.

I love pages that are laid out in a non-traditional format... and this vertical 2-panel does a great job of depicting the height of the scene.

This is also a pull back shot of cover scene of the book to make the ICBMs look massive in scale. Very cool how these cave wall textures are done for this rock climbing sequence.
