Description

This is a rare exception to my collecting rule. I have never sought a commissioned piece - until now. Jorge Fornes is one of my favorite modern artists and a singular talent. I have long salivated over the other commissions I’ve seen from him and his take on the Caped Crusader is one of my favorites, echoing Mazzucchelli and tingling my nostalgia while blowing me away with his draftsmanship. This one was worth the wait and worth breaking my usual rule for. I couldn’t be happier with it.

It DOES echo Mazzucchelli, doesn't it? The bat breaking through the glass is a great touch and really ramps up the excitement on what would otherwise be a quiet, morose scene. Kudos on a successful commission attempt, Jonathan!

Like you, his earlier Mazzucchelli riff also appealed to my inner fanboy. But I'm liking this new direction even more. Great commission, congrats!

Your description says it all. Great commission, great art, great artist. While his style harkens back to Toth and Mazz, his layouts and sequential storytelling, I daresay, exceed.

Stunning commission by the incredible Jorge Fornes! He does have a touch of Mazzucchelli to his style, doesn't he? But he's clearly his own artist. I love the different references he includes here, from Bruce at his parent's graves, to the bat bursting through the window and of course, the Bat-Signal! Fabulous commission and well worth breaking the rule for!
