DescriptionIt's Tombstone Time !!With this page from Web 36, as an interlude to the central story of the issue, we are introduced to the super villain Tombstone (Lonnie Lincoln). We also get the reaction of Robbie Robertson as he catches a glimpse of Lonnie in his limo. The history and relationship between those two characters was fascinating to me as an avid 'Web' reader, and of course adding Spidey into the mix made it even more entertaining. More aptly put, Tombstone used to scare the crap out of me. The writer of the issue, Gerry Conway, explained why he created Tombstone: "My general motivation was a need to work with the characters who weren't central to The Amazing Spider-Man title, since that was the main book. That meant I needed to focus my attention not on Aunt May or Mary Jane, or even J. Jonah Jameson, but on second- or even third-tier supporting characters. Joe Robertson was one of those. The second motive had to do with my desire to bring back the ruthless gangster Hammerhead had been, but not Hammerhead himself. It just came to me as a character type. One thing led to another, and as his backstory expanded, readers responded well to it." Social/Sharing |

Wow, so YOU got this! Very cool Paul! It's funny, but I got so used to Tombstone being used primarily during the Sal Buscema run on Spectacular Spider-Man, that I always forget he first appeared here in Web of Spider-Man. As always, the page is even more cool to own because it's the very first page he ever appeared on. Congrats!

Great pick-up! To die for, as Tombstone would agree!

Although I also assimilate Tombstone to Sal Buscema, this first appearance page is indeed historic and really cool. Congratulations on a great page, Paul!!!

Make no mistake, it's not revenge he's after. It's a reckonin'.

Wow! Congrats, Paul! You know I like me some Tombstone - the quintessential bully. And oh did Robbie have a rough time for a while cuz of this dude. I know that Conway was much more a fan of street level grounded superhero stories and Tombstone fit perfectly into that. His very first panel appearance - wow. BIG congrats again, man!
