DescriptionThere's a huge lump in my throat...Never, in my wildest dreams, had I imagined that I would, one day, add a Prince Valiant page to my collection... I mean, Hal Foster!!! Superlatives are useless here, but I think what I like most about his work is the sheer scope of his stories (from grandiose to mundane through outrageously funny) AND his own unique stance on comics art, his daring direct lineage to the pictural art from the 15th to the 19th century. And, everything that has been said about his original art is true! Every panel is a work of art, a book illustration, a painting, a fresco!... And this is a big big page too! So big, so great that I had to refurbish a room in order to display it properly (Well, not exactly, the room project came first, but,... never mind...). I'm still adjusting to it, right now, but, looking at it, I always finish by THAT last panel portrait of Val... Timeless... Finally, 2 nice details: - This page was published within weeks of my own birth - It comes from the episode "The Grail Quest"... Well, how do you define a Grail?... Surely, this is one for me! As you know, a Foster's page is so huge it takes a while to figure out how to display it properly... But it would surely be a shame to store it in a folder, wouldn't it?

As for the room, I've managed to keep it that way so far, despite numerous temptations to display as many pieces as my walls could allow... I feel it's better to leave some breathing space so that each piece can be appreciated on it's own merits!

Wauw, a art page from one of the greatest artist ever, Foster, and from one of the greatest comic series ever, Prince Valiant. Congratulations. I said the same for the Blueberry page, but a Hal Foster page may even be greater, I'm not sure. Foster and Giraud are two of the greatest artist ever. Very few other are in that league.

I agree about that premiere league of artists. Even though I feel something special for every piece in my collection, it seems there is something extra that has to be the mark of the masters... And Foster, well... I'm still in awe every time I look at it!...

Thanks Bill! I have to admit I'm a little too young for having been exposed to Prince Valiant when it originally appeared, but when I discovered it reprinted in hard-bound volumes, I was simply blown away and my amazement never stopped... That's why I had to find a page for my collection, if only to see the art up close... And my amazement is still there, intact!

A Foster Prince Valiant is next level collecting... grailquest: accomplished!
It's true that every time a comic art collector acquires a long sought grail, you hear a bell, and an angel gets his wings.

Just great. The faces, as always, are magnificent. But, the detail in the destruction is amazing.

Thanks Aidan! I agree, of course! Each panel is a showstopper! Still the narration flows so smoothly... That's storytelling!
