Description

John Berkey is one of my favorite "space art" painters. And this piece is one of my favorites by Berkey. I love the first contact scenario and the wonderful contrast between hardware and pastoral setting. A classic.

This personal piece by Berkey has been published several times, including his art book Painted Space and The Frank Collection.

Absolutely fantastic! Coincidentally, I was just admiring a scan of this piece earlier today before I saw your post. The composition, mood, lighting, and color are perfect. Among the best skies Berkey ever painted, for my taste. Of course, the ships, buildings and landscape are terrific.

I've loved this painting for decades. It was my desktop image for a couple of years back in the early 2000's. A grail piece for me. I really appreciate being able to acquire it!

What a spectacular piece. What I like about it (aside from the obvious) is that it appears the artist put several faces on the spacecraft, at least that's that I see when I look at this piece.

Berkey talks about this piece in his book Painted Space. The face was unintentional and once he saw it he tried to diminish it but he said it only changed expression 😄
