DescriptionMoving to a different "cat" with this post :) Today’s my birthday, so thought I’d post a piece that takes me back to them younger years! A mix of 2 shows I watched ALL the time as a little LITTLE kid – Masters of the Universe and Thundercats! Page is from a fun 6 issue series back in 2016, illustrated exquisitely by Freddie Williams II. Got to see a lot of the cast from both shows throughout, and here, the lead guys in He-Man and Lion-O!He-Man’s been possessed and is in a fight with Lion-O. The Lord of the Thundercats is trying to snap him out of it, and also realizes he’s outmatched strength-wise, so tries something we hadn’t seen before – “Sword of Omens…give me power beyond power!” Ha! Tad cheesy, but fun, as I love how it mixes both He-Man’s main saying (“By the Power of Grayskull….I have the poweeeer!”) with one of Lion-O’s – “Sword of Omens…give me sight beyond sight!” Lion-O’s essentially telling the Sword of Omens to give him a power up so he can go toe-to-toe with “the most powerful man in the universe!” :) And the page looks GREAT in person. Love half splashes with some storytelling/setup followed by the booming image. Freddie’s got some legit skill with ink wash, as well as traditional pen, and white ink…and mixing it all together! Love how he rendered the swirling energy in the Lion-O splash – when you run your finger lightly over it you can feel the textures of the media. Cool stuff! Every year as I get a little older I love how OA is some of the stuff that keeps me young, and this is a nice example. And I got some more Thundercats posts coming in the next few weeks so stay tuned! “Hooooooo!” :) Social/Sharing |

Are you kidding me. Whoever thought of a He-Man Thundercats comic cross, then putting FW at the helm, should be promoted. Promoted 5 times.

I know little about Thundercats and Lion-O, as I already felt I was a bit too old for it when it came out so I didn't watch it, but I do like the art here! Really nice page, especially the money shot. More importantly....
Happy Mother Funcking Birthday, Kahlil! 🥳 🥳 🥳 🥳 🥳

Happy birthday and WHAT A GREAT PAGE! It really reminds of the current Italian school of highly finished, ink-washed pages. And of course the setting is as required. Brilliant!

Didn't think about that connection with the Italian school - good point! Glad you dig the page! Thanks man, and all, for the birthday well wishes!

Sweet! As a collector of all things MOTU (figure wise anyways) I love this page, and what an awesome half splash of Lion-O. Very cool. Happy Birthday man!!

Cool art! He-Man would have Lino-O skinned and used as a rug in front of his fireplace by sundown.

Happy Birthday !! And what a great nostalgic page to celebrate your special day! Loved your description, and yeah, the use of ink wash on this splashy page is really beautiful. "GIVE ME POWER BEYOND POWER!!" So cool. (I could use that kind of pick-me-up on Monday mornings). You know, as long as we have original comic art, it doesn't matter what numerical value our age may be, we shall always remain young ... with power beyond power !!!

Love that Lion-O is about gassed, and He-Man is all casually picking up a friggin tower. Fun page. And happy birthday!

This art I love, I looked around
Would pay a million for fast turnaround
And Power Sword connection that the Sword-Omen kills
'Til the Greyskull brought Adam
Oh, He-Man is the guy
Toy I love
Can the child within this art, bid above?
Can I win through the changin' auction buys?
Get 2 Freddie Williams in my life?
Well, I've been afraid of biddin'
'Cause I've bought my art in round two
But time auction fever
Even tracking bids follower
And I'm bidding bolder too
Well, you have birthdays of agin'
'Cause You've built a life in cartoons
But time cakes Lion-Older
Even root for old Cringer
And I'm watching after school
Oh! I'm watching after school

I'm a big fan of Williams' art, the Thundercats and the Masters of the Universe, so this page hits multiple boxes on my personal checklist of what makes great OA. More importantly, a very slightly belated happy birthday to a guy who has helped make the OA collecting community a brighter place! Here's to many more!

Yessir, multiple checks is tough to beat - thought the same thing when picking it up! As far as making the community a brighter place...you're too kind, man. Thank you, sir! Been good getting to know you the last year or so, and I appreciate YOUR many nostalgic inducing adds :)

That was indeed a fun and obvious x-over and Williams has been the go to guy for those 80s properties.

Gorgeous page! Featuring some amazing characters of my youth, beautifully rendered and dynamic panels, especially the half splash of Lion-O.

Happy Birthday! Thundercats is also a blast from the past for me, spent a lot of time watching that show. It's always fun to see the OA pieces that are a outside your primary collecting focus, and the right side splash is on point. Congrats!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, K!! This is a gorgeous page - the layout (with its ever-widening vertical panels) makes me think of a sword being drawn (or am I just trying too hard here? It really does, though!), and I love the delicious dramatic irony of showcasing Lion-O in the classic He-Man pose. Like Rubèn, Thundercats came after my more intense toon-watching days, so I'm not familiar with them, but this art is beautiful! The inks washes and polish applied to this thing show it was obviously a labor of love for Freddie, and it is bloody freakin' AWESOME that you are posting this on your birthday to mark the occasion. :) Hope you had a phenomenal day, sir!

Thanks, man! And I didn't even think about the progressively more vertical panels adding to the moment, let alone as a sword being drawn! Whether thinking too hard or not, I'll take it :) And my birthday was fun - nice dinner out with the fam!

Clearly, I don't have sight beyond sight...Happy Belated Birthday! Not sure how I missed this sweet nostalgia slurry. He-man vs Lion-O? That's a match-up I never expected to see. You're gonna need all that extra power, Lion-o. Just don't look at what He-man is lifting...KA-SMASH! I really like how he handled this composition, and it's really nice art. Very cool page, Kahlil. Congrats!

Fabulous page from He-Man/Thundercats! Love the composition of this page, especially the large right splash panel! Freddie Williams II really shows how skillful he is here. Fantastic pick-up!
