DescriptionPlanet of the Apes #1, page 31.13 by 18 inch. Published August, 1974. Story by the talented Doug Moench. Ink and wash. This was a black and white magazine. I remember buying it when it came out. Read it ( about a thousand times) and could not believe how great the art was. Looking at this page you can see what a tremendous job Ploog did. Great action and movement. He knew how to use light and shading to tell a story. I think the last panel is incredible. Thanks Albert. Social/Sharing |

Wow! Wow! Wow! I remember reading this B&W magazine when it first came out! I didn't know who Mike Ploog was then, I didn't know a lot of things, but I knew what I liked. And this was what I liked. Even now, I can see the reasons this excited me--The danger, the action, the crazy storyline. it was pure heaven for me. Ploog's art has only gotten better to my eye. His ability to stage every scene and keep the action moving from panel to panel is still extraordinary. What a great find! Congrats on a fabulous pick-up!

Thank you so much for your comments Bill. I also bought this issue when it came out and read it repeatedly, and the others that followed. I could not believe the amazing and incredible art!

Really great representation of a terrific series. When it comes to comic art the Mike Ploog Apes art is in a league of it's own. Congratulations on obtaining a page from the initial issue

I so enjoyed ALL Ploog's work during that period....in the vein of Berni, but not his JR or a knockoff...just Ploog!
