DescriptionI'd enjoyed putting together the "last issue spectacular" covers that Mitch did for me so much that I couldn't help but think about building out that 80's Crusaders universe.Since Perez wasn't available and Mitch Ballard's booked solid until, I believe, 2027 I wasn't sure where to go with this one. I knew I wanted the full Legion on the cover but that's a lot of folks :) I'm not happy that it took me as long as it did to realize Val was the right guy to go to. As I often do when asking artist to draw obscure characters, I want thank Val for dealing with some very iffy reference images and I truly do see it as a testament to his abilities that he was able to draw something this good from all that. Redstone absolutely looks better here than in his "official" appearance, the Metal Witch looks so good it makes me want to put her on every cover, the Dimensionoid looks cool and even Lady Spider has a very nice distinct look to her. And, yes, Karate Master's head is the size of his upper body (really, you can check for yourself, Mighty Comics #42). I also want to thank Chris for hi great work on this (and all the Crusaders covers so far). You'll never know how effortless Chris makes it look until you try to letter something yourself. Man's worth his weight in gold. As always, I hope Crusaders fans approve :) And a note - there will be more to come but I need to take a break. It turns out running an imaginary comic book company is harder than I thought it would be and I need some time to get things back to a doable schedule ;) Original size 11x17 ------- In This Issue ... The Malevolent Legion of Juggernauts! Malevolence Part I This is it! The big #25! The mystery figure from the last two issues is finally revealed as Ashur Khan, the Gladiator from Tomorrow! And his nefarious plans are all too clear - having gathered the world's most powerful villains he is leading them against the Mighty Crusaders in revenge against the Shields! It's an epic 40 page slugfest as the two teams go head to head! And this is only the first chapter! This Issue's Cover ... The Ashur Khan's Legion - Mr. Menace, Dovi, Brontasaurus, Deadly Force, Outcast, the Metal Witch, Redstone, the Gladiator, the Amoeba Man, Radiation Rogue, the Dimensionoid, Lady Spider, the Eraser, Karate Master and Mighty Man. Flying above are Sting, Lodestone and Rogue Star. Social/Sharing |

Takin' a break?? Say it ain't so!! Where will I get my Mighty Crusaders fix?? I agree that producing imaginary covers is hard work, and costly! Nice way to break though with these great pencils from Val. Excellent layout too. Sorry to say I could only identify a few, so thanks for clearing the air! Nice work from Chris too!

It looks awsome. I sympathize with the administration work that goes behind the scenes to create an Empire. But your efforts are appreciated always

Then real life came along ...It almost always takes longer than predicted with commissions. I've grown to accept that. That said, this is fantastic! Val did a great job including so many characters and adding a bit of personality to each one, with no identical poses.

Giving me appropriate "lead time". Oh well :)
Val did channel his inner Perez in giving everyone a little something. He even made Redstone look not half bad :)

Great cover. And I feel your pain on getting stuff done, it's an exercise in patience, but worth the wait.

One of the best Val Semeiks commissions I've ever seen. This is phenomenal. Another masterpiece in the Mighty Moorhead Manner!
