DescriptionA very early Tony Daniel Batman cover, but he was already crushing it.Love the layering of the three characters, the background city buildings, the central column, the moon & bats of course, and the way Batman's cape frames the battle below, almost like a stage curtain. Interestingly, they reversed the image for the published comic. I'll never get enough of Tony Daniel Batman!! Social/Sharing |

I actually like this post-Image stuff better than the more recent Jim Lee cloning Daniel art. I just appreciate that it's more true to his artistic identity, rather than trying to look like someone else. Plus it's nice to see Wildcat on a cover. One of DC's more under used characters I think. Anyway, great piece!

Classic early DC Daniel. Clearly Daniel's style, but I'm picking up some Norm Breyfogle vibes and influence on the style here. I also love the huge chest logo. Another nice cover!

Early Daniel art is a sight to feasr upon! Agree that his later style imitated Jim Lee and well but seeing this is a reminder that we couldve had more of his trademark style. I think the Detective Comics New 52 book wouldve benefited nicely had it been drawn in this manner. Congrats!

Never even heard of this, much less seen it before. So cool! Lovely composition and I don't know if it's just me, but it's so bizarre to see Tony Daniel work in the 90's. For some reason I only ever think of him as a guy from the 2000's! Cool team-up, and even cooler to see you post DC art every now and then! 😍

It's a Breyfogle looming Batman brooding stance that looks over this battle. The big cape is from his from his run on Spawn and The Tenth. Thibert's thin line detailed inks on his art makes it slick as those Image books were and is not what Florea would do in the more modern style. This fits in with the Image era as he was a hot artist now crossing over to a Bat mini series,

I think you are spot on regarding the Breyfogle influence. I too greatly enjoyed this early phase of Daniel's work.

Great to see you are hunting DC stuff, so maybe a better chance for us Marvel guys to score something :-).

Batman overlooks a Wildcat vs Croc battle. I'm betting he's thinking that it's a nice break from getting punched by the scaly lizard-dude. I love the characters on this one, and the play of the images. Bat's cape framing the battle is a nice choice. Cool pick-up, Paul. Congrats!

Really like how broad Batman's shoulders are here, and right above him you got a nice contrast with all that texture in the middle of the board! Bruce does NOT miss shoulder day - you can bet on that :) Congrats, Paul!

This Cover is fantastic! I also didn't know this issue and Daniel's Breyfogle influenced 90's style on Batman. Super interesting piece of Comic book history, thanks for sharing, Paul!
