DescriptionMoving now into the 2000s with my Superman themed week, we have this fun title splash from Action #792 which features a huge image of Superman in the process of carrying a huge chunk of mountain towards an erupting Hawaiian volcano.I included a pic of the following page as well, cuz it's pretty cool when the camera shot zooms out to reveal the enormity of what Superman is doing. Plus, you get a nice image of Wonder Woman. The penciler is one of my favorite artists, Pasqual Ferry (spelled "Pascual" in these credits), and the impressive inks are provided by the great Mark Morales. Social/Sharing |

You know, Ferry is one of those guys whose art never did anything for me. Not that I "hated" it, just that whenever I saw it, it didn't attract me in any way. But with these Mark Morales inks, this is the first Ferry piece I can honestly say "stands out" to me and captures my attention. Reminds me a bit of McGuinness' style. Just goes to show what a big difference certain inkers can make over a particular penciller. This also reminds me of the Zeck Secret Wars scene of the Hulk lifting up the entire mountain range! Very nice splash.

So in think Ruben is right about the inks. I love Ferry -but I love him more when its inked. His first DC issue with Superman and Nightwing made me an instant fan and the inks had a big role in that. Love this page Paul! Having had no vacation for some time.. I also got to say the Hawaiin connection makes this page very timely in terms of my thinking lately . Big congrats.

Yeah, those inks add a lot of power to the page. I mean, not that Supes dropping a mountain into a volcano needs "power," per de, but it adds a lot of oomph. This is a fantastic Superman splash. I especially like that his face is determined, not strained. Very super! Congrats

No...Not the Hawaiian Mountains, that would piss Pele Off! The inking on Superman’s Costume is legit! Badass Splash!

It's cool seeing these earlier traditional inked Ferry pieces. Really works here, particularly on Supes's costume! Big and super squared jawed a la McGuinness, which is a good thing! Heroic shot, to say the least! Congrats!
