DescriptionOne of George Barr's earliest professionally published illustrations was done for Jack Douglas' "Dead World," published in the May 1961 issue of Amazing Stories. However, he actually did two illos for that story, one of which wasn't published. I think it wasn't published due to lack of room, given how the story laid out space-wise.I picked up that unpublished illo a few weeks ago in LA. Here it is, with the Ziff Davis stamp very light at bottom and some printers' notes, including C. Goldsmith's name, for editor Cele Goldsmith. On the back, Barr's notes indicate that the original title for the story was "The Dead Planet," but this was changed, perhaps because the same issue ran "The Planet of Shame," and that would have been one too many planets!
