Description

Here's a painting we just picked up, by pulp artist Harry T. Fisk, which is a bit of a mystery. It looks like the cover for Street & Smith's war pulp, Over The Top, March 1930, but there are differences between it and the published cover. It is very dirty, so when I get it cleaned we'll see what happens to the colors. It's possible it's a prelim, but if so, it's the largest pulp prelim I've ever seen, as its about the same size as his other Over The Top paintings that I've seen -- 28" x 28". I know that Fisk modified some of his other Over The Top paintings after he got them back from Street & Smith, possibly to make them more acceptable for gallery showings, so it's possible that he's done the same to this one. Hopefully the restorer will be able to help solve the mystery.

Doug, You are my hero. People have occasionally told me they want to be be me when they grow up. I on the other hand wouldn't mind being you. I'd have to get to keep everything about me that I love though. Lol! What a great collection you have. War art is my favorite. Nice piece. Jack
