DescriptionMy favorite page of the three I have from this issue. Baron and Rude are in perfect sync here. The staging of the first panel, a top down shot with the pirate captains arrayed against Nexus, their shadows all pointing at him, set up the confrontation. The second and third panels one of the best 'one-two' panel progression I've ever seen. It's dramatic and funny, the body language is perfect, and the writing just sings."Guilty. Kreed? ZAM!" These are pirate captains, so they're tough and nasty and cool, but they aren't just zealots and thugs. I love how distinct each of them are. The framing and staging of the last three panels, all with strong foreground/background elements, shows an artist in total control. I love the Goulessarian-loving hawk-headed pirate in panel five. He'd already been established as the most logical of the bunch, so his quick compromise makes perfect sense. With his mace on his shoulder I assume he's a nod towards DC's Hawkman. Social/Sharing |

Fantastic! Steve worked with inkers who complemented him perfectly. One after another. No weak links. Nyberg stands tall among them!

Yes, Nyberg was awesome. I think he probably inked more Nexus pages than anyone. Not to take anything away from him, but I think Steve's pencils are so tight that he makes a good inker's job pretty easy. Plus I'm pretty sure Steve almost always went over every page before publication and fixed anything in the inking that bothered him.

Great page! Rude was hitting out of the park at this time in the run.

Horatio getting hot under the collar!! Brilliant layout by Dude and tight writing by Baron. A killer team back then.
