DescriptionPublished in 1967 in the fabulous Daredevil Annual 1:"ELECYTRO and his EMISSARIES of EVIL! A 39-page Slam Bang Action Thriller! PLUS! Features! Pinups! And a mixed-up meeting with Stan and Gene!" This large issue is choked with A+ action pages. Tartaglione isn't my favorite Colan inker, but he does a solid job here, and it's a stellar issue with four classic Daredevil foes. I love 2-up art! The last panel on this page was also used on the inside front cover - see the additional image. No colorist was credited, but the GCD suggests Stan Goldberg. On the title page there is no separate writer or penciller credit - it states "DD's most dangerous adventure ... by Stan (the Man) Lee and Gene (the Dean) Colan". And the playful 3-page meeting between Stan and Gene that ends the issue features Colan complaining about having to come up with entire story plots while Stan claims to be the writer. I think Colan had a good relationship with Lee, and respected him, but looking back at this makes me think Colan was doing more writing than I'd previously thought. Not as much as Ditko and Kirby, but more than I'd previously thought. At SDCC one year I asked Gene Colan to sign it in pencil, worried that with time a marker signature would fade and not liking ball-point pen on OA. He muttered about it to his wife - it was obviously an unusual request. Mr. Colan was indeed a gentleman. I wish I'd hung out and chatted with him more that day. Social/Sharing |

This is one great-looking page. I really like the openness of the top panel. The DD recovery sequence at the bottom is super as well. I think the inking is mighty fine. Thanks for sharing this!

Great piece--love to see Colan doing his take on characters we don't normally associate with him, like Electro. Congrats!
