DescriptionMy brother Jim told me that comic book legend Simon Bisley would be appearing at the Awesome Con. Lobo was my favorite comic as a teenager, and Jim and I have been to conventions across the US for the last 15 years without ever encountering him. My brain melted momentarily, but when I recovered I realized that Jim had asked me what I would ask Biz to draw for me if I ever had that chance. I have seen plenty of Bisley Lobo convention sketches, so I thought harder. I love the violence, the exaggerated anatomy, and the sci-fi mayhem apparent in Bisley's work, so why not ask him for a Frankenstein? Jim went to the show, found that no one was ahead of him on Simon's commission list, and asked him how he felt about Frankenstein. Simon responded by extending his fist, where Jim saw the custom Frankenstein ring that Simon wore. Although Simon's rate sheet indicated he was only doing 9x12" commissions, somehow Jim brought me this 12x18" masterpiece! Simon used watercolor, India ink, pencil, pens, a silver paint pen, and 2 tools that I cannot identify. Let's label these as "Mad Science"- I see evidence of several sections of dots that look as if they were applied by a paint roller or a stamp, but I can't tell what he used. Also, there are whitish grooves carved into the toned areas under Frank's lips. Did he use a crow quill nib? Who knows!? Thanks, Simon and Jim!Social/Sharing |

Just like Doctor Frankenstein himself, Bisley goes into his lab and puts together a pretty monster! The spot shadows, wash, and the thin line details bring the monster ALIVE! ALIVE! ALIVE!
