DescriptionAfter desiring it like The One Ring itself for years, I was finally able to add this stunning, large work by Donato to my collection. "The Tower of Cirith Ungol" is a personal work created in 2011-2012 and later included in Donato's Tolkien-themed art book "Middle-Earth: Journeys in Myth and Legend", published by Dark Horse Books in 2019 (a nice double-page spread on pgs 156-157). The image was also featured in Spectrum 19 on p210. Here's what Donato had to say regarding the inspiration for this piece:"His mission failed with The One Ring taken from him, and tortured by the cruel servants of Sauron, Frodo faces a world in which all he has loved will be lost. Much the way saints have been portrayed in historical works of art, the nudity of Frodo emphasizes his vulnerability and desire to be spiritually released from the pain of the mortal world. This is not the isolated act of a single orc beating down a frail hobbit, but rather a representation of the oppressive will of Sauron threatening to place all of Middle-earth beneath his rule: shadow and shackles are the future for the inhabitants of Middle-earth." You want a todgerless hobbit for your sex dungeon, you prev? Seriously though, where are Frodos privates? They appear to have magically melted away. Is the ring on them? The art will look even better when its completed by the artist. Lol.

That doesn't bother me at all. Art is art and doesn't need to be 100% realistic. I just figure it's hidden by shadows. The piece is already perfect.

He's being tortured, he's 3 feet tall to begin with, and I bet Cirith Ungol is pretty cold....so I would assume we got some next level turtling going on!

Every work by this artist is a true masterpiece in every sense of the word. This one is no exception. No one paints like this artist. At least no one living. Great addition!

Thanks NG! Donato truly is a master painter. I'm surely biased, but I think this is one of his best large scale Middle Earth pieces.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed the size. Very cool. I'd have to buy a bigger doghouse.

Haha..ya, it's a wopper in size. I'm going to have to a move a few to storage to make room for it on the wall! But I figured it was gonna get a nice Donato, I should go BIG! :)
