Description

Here’s my third and final pickup from IX 2023. I’d had my eye on this one for awhile, but in person, I was finally sold. This is Dave Seeley’s amazing cover art for “Sir Dominic Flandry: The Last Knight of Terra”, published by Bean in 2003. One of four covers for Baen Books’Technic Civilization series by Poul Anderson. Flandry was essentially James Bond in Space, and he was written before Fleming wrote Bond. I love Robert McGinnis's work and especially his work on James Bond imagery in the 70's. This particular cover was also included in the “The Art of Dave Seeley”. This painting is a unique hybrid oil / digital illustration including areas of an underlying archival print showing in the final surface of the background.

Nice shwashbuckling swagger holding his big sword out proudly with the lady draped on him for a timeless look. The futuristic city scape provides bright lighting to make Flandry's sword pulse with a glow.
