DescriptionI had a chance to buy the OA for Bengal's cover of All-New Wolverine issue 1, but I couldn't get both that and the original painting for the variant cover of the same issue by Keron Grant, and if you've seen the latter in my gallery then you know how that story ended. So I unfortunately had to pass and then someone else bought the Bengal cover. Curses!Anyway, since then I've been waiting for the "right" cover to buy from Bengal's run as cover artist on the book. I came close but didn't quite pull the trigger on one or two of the next ones, but when I saw the cover to issue 7, I knew I had found it. The cover shows Laura (X-23/Wolverine) eating Chinese takeaway together with her younger "sister"/clone Gabby on a ledge outside the Bronx apartment her "dad" Logan left her in his will. It's a slice-of-superhero-life scene showing a quiet moment after having recently dispatched some bad guys in a dumpster in the alley below. I really like the new Gabby character and the cover is also more in the "Bengal style" than some of the other ANW covers. As Bengal himself described it; his covers for Spider-Gwen are "100% Bengal", he gets no direction from editorial and just does his thing. The ANW covers, on the other hand, come with specific instructions from Marvel editorial. However, the instructions for this issue, number 7, was to basically to do something like his Gwen covers, and the result is 100% Bengal. A final note: the Marvel editors made a last-minute request for Bengal to draw an insert of the issue's guest star Squirrel Girl to be used on the cover. This happened after I'd talked to him about buying the original. He drew this insert on a separate half-page which he included with the original cover as a bonus. He also gave me the rough sketches he did in the early stages, trying out different angles of the scene. Social/Sharing |

Your excitement really comes through in your description! A real playful quality to this cover, and Bengal continues to up his game in terms of expressiveness in his pieces. Lastly, a great perspective shot. Congrats!

Such a great capture of characters for this cover. Really enjoyed what they did with Honey Badger during this time in comics.
