DescriptionSecret Invasion: Fantastic Four #2 Cover 2008 (Alan Davis / Mark Farmer)Just got this beauty from Romitaman! Awesome battle-action cover as Johnny battles Lyja (his ex) by the incredibly talented art team of Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. I've always enjoyed artwork by Alan Davis and a few months ago I took notice of what his popular Excaliber pages were selling for at auction. I thought it might be wise to see if I could get an example of his art for my collection before costs escalated further. I located this artwork on Mike's website, and it wasn't just a panel page but a cover! Although priced at double the cost of my highest artwork purchased, I thought this a last opportunity to own one of his covers and pulled the trigger. Although a DC fan at heart, I've always had a soft spot for the Fantastic Four making this a great choice. It also comes from the Secret Invasion event which was the last time period of my reading Marvel Comics making it more personal appropriate. And what a dynamic cover scene! You can almost feel the impact of that kick with Lyja's extended leg and Johnny's head recoil producing a 3-D effect breaching off the cover. Signed by Davis at the right bottom of page. Page is in excellent condition. Social/Sharing |

Great cover and love the way he drew Torch here. I know what you mean about getting it while it's cheap (or at least cheapER). Davis used to be one of my go-to affordable artists. While he's not quite in the stratosphere yet, the fact that I haven't been able to add a new piece by him in a few years tells me he might be on his way. At the same time, I don't know many collectors who have ever regretted plopping their money down for a Davis piece. One of the most talented and consistent artists in the business.

When Torch says his ex is a harpy, he really means it! Davis' composition is wonderful with the main action centered and the strike going vertical. It is wrapped around a circle made of the Torch, Lyja's wing, and the crowning waves in the sky!

My only critique of Alan Davis' work on the Fantastic Four is that there isn't nearly enough of it. Each time he depicts Marvel's First Family, it feels like a natural fit between artist and subject matter. Congrats on adding this gem to your collection!

Alan Davis is a master artist. Easily a first ballot hall of famer artist. Great piece!
